Draped Figures

If my skirted figures are about stillness, then they are also about movement. In this series, the simple fragmented figure often pushes the boundary of her calm by taking a single step, shifting weight forward as a metaphor for change.

I started the first castings (Skirted Figure and Skirted Figure #2) by hammering the skirt and recently added to this process by engraving over the hammered finish (Miel). This creates a tapestry-like shimmer on the surface that I find intriguing!
